Massive Attack Announce Environmentally Friendly Tour for 2020

30th December 2019

Massive Attack announce they will go on tour again in 2020, but will do so with as low a carbon footprint as they possibly can (taking trains over planes etc…) to act as an inspiration for how other bands can possible do likewise to combat climate change.

Mezzanine XXI tour ends at New York’s Radio City

27th September 2019

The final show of Massive Attack’s North American tour (which had previously been delayed and rescheduled) was conducted on this date at New York’s famous Radio City Music Hall. In total Massive Attack played 39 shows in 2019.

Remastered version of Mezzanine plus a new Mad Professor remix album are released

20th August 2019

After numerous delays the remastered version of Massive Attack’s Mezzanine album is released on this date on various formats. An accompanying remix album by the Mad Professor is also simultaneously released. A super deluxe hardcover edition of the Mezzanine remastered album was however announced as cancelled that had been meant to be released.

New Art Exhibit at London’s Barbican Featuring 2 distinct Massive Attack contributions

16th May 2019

A new art exhibit named “AI: More than Human” at London’s Barbican art centre opened on this date featuring two distinct Massive Attack contributions. The first contribution was the widely reported on spray cans containing the Mezzanine album’s DNA sequencing while the other was a machine learning algorithm that visitors could manipulate in real time that produced random sound collages based upon sounds taken from the Mezzanine album. The art exhibit was free and ran up to the 26th August

Massive Attack play a surprise DJ set in London as part of an Extinction Rebellion event

21st April 2019

In an unexpected announcement, 3D would play a surprise DJ set at London’s Marble Arch on this date. This was part of a climate change awareness event hosted by the radical Extinction Rebellion alliance. This particular event would also have Greta Thunberg attending it.

Massive Attack release cover of an old Russian punk song on a very limited release vinyl

This previously unreleased track by Massive Attack was recorded in 2013 at Unit 3 studio, Bristol during the creation of the show ‘Massive Attack V Adam Curtis’. It was pressed on a unique vinyl-type record by The Bureau of Lost Culture, and made with audio engraved on 10 authentic one-of-a-kind x-ray films (with etchings), dated from 1957. Intended to be displayed as an artwork, but it can also be played 10-15 times before the audio disappears. The 10 copies were auctioned on this date, with all proceeds from the sale benefiting The University Of The Underground which kept an extra copy for archival purpose. It came with a certificate of authenticity. Original track name in Russian: "Все идет по плану" translates as "Everything goes according to plan".

Interview with 3D discussing the use of technology when applied to music is featured in Wired Magazine

A new interview with 3D discussing the potential of applying new emerging technologies to traditional artforms is published in Wired Magazine on this date. In the interview he discusses how Massive Attack have applied artificial intelligence, DNA sequencing and augmented reality to their own music in recent times, while also talking about the current Mezzanine XX! tour.

Massive Attack forced to delay their North American Tour

8th March 2019

Massive Attack were forced to delay the North American dates for their Mezzanine XXI tour on this date. Originally the shows were scheduled to take place 2 weeks after the last of the European shows had finished in early March but this delayed owing to an undisclosed illness with one of the touring bandmembers. The North American dates would eventually be rescheduled for September and October instead.

New Book about Massive Attack and Bristol Music Scene released

4th March 2019

A new book “Massive Attack: Out Of The Comfort Zone” written by French journalist Melissa Cheman was released on this date in English speaking markets. The book is a detailed and passionate overview of the vibrant Bristol music scene from the 1970’s up until the present, with a particular emphasis on Massive Attack’s role in it.

Mezzanine XXI Tour kicks off in Glasgow

28th January 2019

Massive Attack’s eagerly anticipated anniversary tour to celebrate the Mezzanine album kicked off tonight at the SSE Hydro arena in Glasgow in the first date of 39 shows scheduled for the year ahead. The tour would feature Elizabeth Fraser (of the Cocteau Twins) returning to perform with the band as well as visuals supplied by BBC documentary filmmaker, Adam Curtis.
